We Have this Treasure in Earthen Vessels Primary Text: 2 Corinthians 4:6-9 A Christian is an “earthen vessel” who at times experiences sadness, tears, afflictions, perplexities, weakness, and fears. Yet because of the heavenly “treasure” within him, he is not defeated. Christianity is not the removal of weakness, nor is it merely the manifestation of divine power. Rather it is the manifestation of divine power through human weakness. This means that in every affliction we may be more than conquerors by the power and love of God and that our weaknesses, troubles, and suffering open us up to the abundant grace of Christ and allow the life of Jesus to be manifested in our bodies. If you experience the presence of Christ and his power in your life, absolutely no trouble, affliction, sickness, or tragedy will cause your spiritual defeat. When outward circumstances become unbearable and your human resources are exhausted, God’s resources are given to enlarge and expand your faith, hope, and strength. Under no circumstances will God forsake His faithful children.
